CAPITAL HEALTH RECEIVES $5 MILLION GIFT
FROM BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB FOUNDATION

Capital Campaign Gift Names Trauma Center

The Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation has made a $5 million gift to the Capital Health Foundation’s Campaign for Capital Health to support the hospital system’s regional trauma program.

The gift was the largest in the history of the Trenton, N.J.-based organization and helped kick off its precedent-setting $25 million fundraising initiative to support the construction of Capital Health’s new hospital in Hopewell, N.J. and extensive expansion of the Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

“We are moving forward at a rapid pace to bring residents of this region the most innovative and exceptional medical care available today,” said Samuel J. Plumeri, Chairman of Capital Health’s Board of Directors.

The gift included the naming of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center. The trauma center is one of seven designated Level II trauma centers in the state of New Jersey. It is the regional referral center for severely injured patients in Mercer County and adjacent parts of Somerset, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Burlington, and Middlesex counties as well as Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

“We offer sincere congratulations to our friends at Capital Health for this transformational gift from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation,” said Allen J. O’Keefe, Senior Vice President of Ghiorsi & Sorrenti, Inc., counsel to the Capital Health Foundation during their $25 million Campaign for Capital Health effort. “This extraordinary gift is a tribute to Capital for their vision and mission to provide greatly enhanced medical care in the region, and to the BMS Foundation for recognizing the value of this effort and taking the enormous step to help fund the campaign.”

The $530 million state-of-the-art Capital Health Medical Center - Hopewell will be home to the Regional Cancer Center, CyberKnife Center and Women’s and Children’s Pavilion as well as a wide array of acute care services. The expansion of the Capital Health Regional Medical Center (CHRMC) is scheduled to be completed at the same time and headquarter the Regional Perinatal Center that is being relocated from the Mercer hospital. In addition to the Bristol-Myers Squibb Trauma Center, CHRMC offers advanced medical services such as the Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center of NJ and regional services such as emergency behavioral health and kidney dialysis.

“We are truly grateful to the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation for this generous gift that will support the lifesaving work of our trauma department,” said Al Maghazehe, CEO and president of Capital Health. “We are also extremely proud of the important common mission to enhance human health that we share with Bristol-Myers Squibb and are pleased to have this opportunity to continue to partner with them to further advance
that mission.”

Including the gift from Bristol-Myers Squibb, the Campaign for Capital Health has now received donor commitments in excess of $17 million.
